*_Attention Volunteer Leaders!_*
Don’t forget that the Warren County 4-H Volunteer Leaders will have their meeting on September 27th at 6:00 p.m. at the Extension Office. We hope to see you all there!

*_2010 Bicycle Rodeo!_*
Warren County 4-H and the Warrenton Police
Department will be hosting a Bike Rodeo on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Miriam Boyd Elementary School in Warrenton. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and all youth are encouraged to attend. Activities include a bicycle obstacle course, poster contest, songs and games, and a free lunch is included! You must bring your own bike to participate in the obstacle course, but helmets
will be provided for those who need them. All youth who attend will have the chance to win a NEW bike!!

*VOLUNTEERS* – Both adults and Teens are greatly needed for this event! Volunteers will help with fitting helmets, showing bicycle safety videos, and the youth poster contest. Any teens that volunteer will receive a $15 Scholarship to a 4-H event of their choosing for the 2010-2011 year. Contact Erin to volunteer!

*_2010 Big Sweep_*
The 2010 Warren County Big Sweep will be held on Saturday, October 16th. We will be partnering with Vance County this year and cleaning up at the Bullocksville Park. We will meet here at the Warren County Extension office at 8:15 and then carpool to the site. Those wishing to meet us there can contact me for additional information and plan to arrive by 8:45. We hope to see you all there!

*_National 4-H Week 2010_*
National 4-H Week will be celebrated the week of October 3-9! Please consider coming out to support Warren 4-H for the following events!
*Monday – October 4*: 4-H Fashion Day! – Wear your favorite 4-H t-shirt wherever you go to show that you “Bleed Green!”
*Thursday – October 7*: 4-H Hungry to Help Food Drive – We will set up a table outside of Lowe’s Foods in Warrenton from Noon to 8:00 p.m. to collect donations and encourage shoppers to give what they can to help out! You can bring donations from home or collect a shopping list of non-perishable items to purchase from the store. Anyone who is available is encouraged to volunteer for 1-2 hour shifts at the drive. Contact Erin to sign up.
*Friday – October 8*: 4-H Family Game Night and Open House – Come out to the Cooperative Extension office from 5-8 p.m. to learn about 4-H and play a variety of board/video games that are fun for the whole family! R.S.V.P. for this event by Wednesday, October 6, 2010. Parents should plan* *to attend this FREE family event with their children.
*Saturday – October 9*: Bicycle Rodeo (see additional information above)

_*State Fair Information*_
The State Fair will be October 15-24, 2010. Please visit the websites below to find out more information about the State Fair. For the entry deadlines – please refer to the Deadlines listed on this page. Remember that we have lots of 4-H activities going on during the week of the Fair.
4-H Competitions

_*2010 Teen Leadership Focus Conference(s)*_
Due to concerns about cost and scheduling, the State 4-H Office has elected to cancel this year’s State Council Conference and instead move to offering Regional Teen Leadership Focus Conferences across the state on different days. This will allow more youth to participate at a reduced cost and teens will still be able to attend workshops that are approved as required/electives for the State 4-H Ambassador Program. These Conferences are open to youth ages 13 and up who are interested in gaining knowledge and skills in Leadership.
Cost – $55
Date – *Saturday, November 20th
Location – Betsy-Jeff Penn 4-H Center (Erin will provide transportation)
Deadline – Friday, October 22nd

_*Area Poultry Show*_
Please don’t forget that all participants in the Poultry Show and Sale must complete a 4-H Project Record Book at turn it in to their county 4-H Office by October 26th. The show will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2010 in Louisburg.

Jamie McAuslan was selected to represent North Carolina 4-H as a Governor’s Page during National 4-H Week in October

_*2011 Four County 4-H Junior Livestock Show *_
We will be having a meeting on Monday, November 8, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. at the Warren County Extension Office to get feedback and discuss dates and other possible adjustments to the Show for 2011. We would like as many families who have (or wish to) participate in next year’s Livestock event to attend as possible. Please mark your calendars and make arrangements to be there for this important meeting. Appetizers and beverages will be provided. Please call the Extension office at 257-3640 by Wednesday, November 3 to register for this meeting.

_*4-H Project Record Book Training*_
Warren County 4-H will be offering a 4-H Project Record Book Training for parents/volunteers and teen 4-H members on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Please note that 2010 4-H Project Record books will be due to Erin in 4-H Office by January 14, 2011. For more information about this training or to register, please contact Erin.

_*2011 4-H Scholarships *_
4-H Scholarship applications will be due to Erin January 7, 2011. Graduating Seniors who have participated in 4-H are eligible for many opportunities through the North Carolina 4-H Scholarship funds. More information about available scholarships can be found online here: or by contacting Erin.

_*It’s NEVER too early!*_
As we approach the new “4-H Year” starting October 1st, please encourage your children and club members to start thinking about they many ways they can become more involved in 4-H throughout the next year. Warren County will be continuing to do many of the same programs that we have been doing as well as encouraging youth to participate in many other 4-H Activities. Please consider the many programs that youth may want to participate in during 2010-2011.
