The information below has been provided by Wendy Laing, Director, Professional Learning and Instructional Design, Southeastern OSHA Training Institute Education Center, NC State University Industry Expansion Solutions (IES).

NC State University Industry Expansion Solutions will conduct free training addressing occupational safety and health hazards that may be encountered by workers, supervisors, and employers involved in disaster site response and cleanup operations in North Carolina and South Carolina. Training will target those providing skilled support services (e.g. utility, demolition, tree and debris removal, or heavy equipment operation), site clean-up services, and recovery activities including the rebuilding and reconstruction of the damaged areas.

IES Safety and Health Specialists utilize interactive training techniques to ensure course participants experience hands-on and participatory learning activities. We anticipate each training event to be delivered in approximately a half-day session; however the actual event time may be adjusted depending on the technical topic and audience needs. IES proposes to provide hazard training in the following topic areas as identified by each training audience, and other topics may be added as identified.

  • Employer responsibilities
  • Employee rights
  • Electrical hazards
  • Construction caught-in/ struck-by hazards
  • Heavy equipment operation
