A series of interactive workshops designed to engage farmers interested in expanding their operations to include agritourism.

bee hive touristsIs Agritourism right for you, your family, and your farm? NC State Extension Tourism’s work with small farms across the state reveals that many small farms report high interest in receiving visitors as a strategy to earn additional income, selling farm products to visitors, enhancing customer relationships and even involving guests in some helpful farm work. In addition, many small farms want to increase their direct to consumer sales, whether to members of neighboring communities or to tourists visiting the area.

The Western North Carolina Agritourism Workshop Series is a virtual 4-part series. English Farmstead Cheese It will define agritourism, help participants determine if their personality is suited for agritourism as well as examine pricing, marketing, legal issues, and developing a business plan.

Each 1.5-hour session will include presentations from Extension agents and specialists, small business consultants, credit service consultants, and farmers currently in agritourism. The sessions run on Tuesdays starting January 5 to January 26, 2021, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The sessions are free, but you must register at WNC Agritourism Workshop Series.

There will be limited seating available at the N.C. Cooperative Extension -McDowell County Center in the Extension Conference Room for viewing of the workshop series. COVID-19 recommended guidelines will be followed with face coverings and social distancing. 

McDowell, Rutherford, and Polk Counties participate in Visit NC Farms. Visit NC Farms is a mobile app to highlight local food and farms in the state. It is a tool for food and farm operations to market their operations to neighbors and tourists.
