Youth make 15 blankets to Donate

Community Service is a transformative experience for youth and is one of the cornerstones of the 4-H program. In February, Carteret County 4-H Council partnered with the Broad Creek Middle School FBLA Chapter to complete a service project for patients who are currently undergoing cancer treatment.

During two different meetings, youth gathered to collect, cut, and tie blankets. The youth were able to make a total of 15 blankets. Two of the blankets went to pediatric patients currently undergoing treatment and the others were donated to Southeastern Medical Oncology Center in Jacksonville.

Projects like this are important to youth as they learn the importance of giving back while improving their communities. Youth learn skills such as teamwork, critical thinking, community engagement and build a sense of compassion, empathy, confidence and pride.
